Second announcement

Dear Arny’s Army and Friends

Thank you to those who have completed the preliminary registration form and notifying your intention to attend the Seventh International Symposium on Industrial Microbiology & Biotechnology, in honour of our good friend, colleague and mentor, Prof Arny Demain.  Many of you are intending to attend the 11th Genetics of Industrial Microorganism Symposium, which is being held in Melbourne at the Convention & Exhibition Centre 28 June – 1 July, 2010 (http://www.gim2010.org/).  For those of you who are only attending the AA&F gathering, I am pleased to announce that you are welcome to attend the closing Plenary session of the GIMS Symposium, which will be presented by Arny at 4p.m., July 1, 2010, at the Melbourne Convention & Exhibition Centre.  Details of the venue can be found on the GIM2010 site.   You will need to report to the registration desk of that meeting to collect a “visitor’s pass” for entry.

The gim2010 site also has a link to a free copy of the Australian Microbiologist, the official publication of the Australian Society for Microbiology.  You may be interested in the feature article on Prof Demain, which is the last paper in this special edition.

The programme

July 1 2010,

6 p.m.

Conference “Mixer” (canapés and drinks) (venue to be confirmed)

All registrants can also attend the closing Plenary Session of the GIM Symposium presented by Prof Demain, 4 p.m., the Melbourne Conference and Convention Centre, then join in the “Mixer” for the 7th International Symposium on Industrial Microbiology and Biotechnology. 

Attendance at the “Mixer” can be booked separately.    Accompanying persons who are not registered will need to book into this function.

Symposium presentations

Symposium dinner

After dinner speaker:  Prof A.L Demain

Attendance at the dinner can be booked separately.   

All registrants and accompanying persons wishing to attend will need to book into this function, as the dinner is not included in the registration fee.


Presented papers will be in the following categories:

Pharmaceuticals – toxins, antibodies, antibiotics and natural products
Bioprocessing – including downstream processing for pharmaceutical production
“White biotechnology” -  from cellulose bioconversion to next generation sequencing
Other topics in industrial microbiology – including managing starter culture.

 

Confirmed papers as at June 1 2010 can be found at Presentations This list will be updated regularly and the Synmposium abstracts will be made available electronically prior to the meeting.

The Abstracts will be accepted until June 21, 2010 but your rapid action is appreciated.

Please note that I have not booked any accommodation:  the instructions on the Accommodation tab will guide you in booking your own hotel at an appropriate price and quality.  Contact me if you need assistance with this or whether this form of booking is not appropriate.
