First announcement Dear Arny’s Army and Friends I am delighted to invite you the Seventh International Symposium on Industrial Microbiology & Biotechnology, in honour of our good friend, colleague and mentor, Prof Arny Demain. At the last Symposium at MIT in 2007, we agreed to hold a meeting in Melbourne, Australia, to coincide with the next Genetics of Industrial Microorganism Symposium. GIM 2010 is being held in Melbourne at the Convention & Exhibition Centre 28 June – 1 July, 2010, and I know that many of you are planning to attend. I can confirm that Arny will also be attending this meeting and will be presenting the closing plenary speech on 1 July. Full details of GIM 2010 can be found at http://www.gim2010.org/. The 7th AA&F gathering will start with Registration and a mixer on the evening of Thursday, 1 July 2010. This will be followed by two full days of presentations at the conference venue, Bio21, at The University of Melbourne in Parkville. The venue is in Flemington Rd and is very easy to get to, as it is in walking distance of the CBD or a short tram ride. If you are going to GIM 2010 and are booking accommodation, you may wish to extend your accommodation at your hotel. There are several hotels in the immediate vicinity of the university and details of these will be posted on this site shortly. The Conference Dinner, and conclusion of the meeting, will be held in the evening of Saturday, 3 July 2010. Some of you may be planning to attend the Australian Society for Microbiology Annual Scientific Meeting & Exhibition in Sydney, 4-8 July, 2010 – details of this meeting can be found at http://www.asm2010.org/. What do you need to do?
To finalize venues for our social functions, I am seeking your expression
of interest in attending and intention to present an oral or poster paper by
filling out the registration form on this site and e-mailing this to the arnyarmyfriends@margaretbritz.com – BY 28 FEBRUARY 2010 – THE
EARLIER THE BETTER PLEASE. The registration fee is $US100 and sponsorship will be sought to help with the fixed costs and catering, including the Conference Dinner. Your suggestions for sponsorship will be welcomed. This is an excellent opportunity to come to my beautiful home city of Melbourne (a sister city of Boston), meet with Arny, renew old friendships and start new ones as we discuss the diverse subjects that will be covered at the Symposium. I hope you can make it!! Marg |
